Valentine’s Day doesn’t need to break the bank, so today we’re sharing 14 affordable date night ideas that are perfect all year round.
GO FOR A WALK
I know it sounds cliche but it’s actually a lot of fun – especially when you’re exploring a new place. Maybe a little drive to a neighbouring town and include lunch.
HAVE A GAME NIGHT
Obviously this is one of our favourites. Cook up some of your favourite appetisers and play classics like Battleship and Uno or go modern and tackle some Xbox favourites.
TAKE A DAY TRIP
This kind of goes hand in hand with go for a walk depending where you end up. Our favourites day trips are ones that include hikes as well – like the time we went to a WWII ghost town!
VISIT A MUSEUM
A no brainer for Londoners, since most are free! We could both get lost in the National History Museum and I could spend hours in the V&A Museum. Both have lovely cafes for a quick coffee and chat about your favourite things.
GO TO A SHELTER AND PLAY WITH PUPPIES
We did this once in South Carolina. It was so much fun. We spent a few hours taking different puppies outside to get some fresh air and play with one another and got all the cuddles. Fun for us and it helped out the shelter and volunteers. Win Win.
GO TO A SPORTING EVENT
Recommended for those who actually enjoy watching sports. Tip: make sure it’s a sport you both enjoy. While Rich could make it through a game of American football, I doubt he’d make it past the second inning at baseball.
VISIT A WINERY OR BREWERY
You’ll more likely to find a brewery in London but a winery tour would be just as much fun. Take a tour and sample everything and rank your favourites. Do you have similar tastes or not so much.
DO AN ACTIVITY TOGETHER
Find a mini golf, go bowling, visit an arcade or a carnival. Be silly and act like teenagers on a first date, goof off and have fun being a kid again. Tip: go during the week and off peek times for the cheapest prices.
BUILD A FORT
There’s nothing like a good fort – even as an adult. On numerous occasions I’ve made Rich bring our mattress into the living room so I can make a proper fort. It normally results in a movie marathon and lots of snacks. Tip: make sure you have plenty of popcorn!
FIND A BAR WITH A POOL TABLE OR DARTS
Rich loves to play darts, I don’t know why and I suck at it, but it’s fun to just have a laugh and do something different. Even if it is at my expense. Pool is more up my alley, we had a pool table growing up so I’m not a total noob when it comes to pool – unlike darts.
DO YOGA TOGETHER
I promise it’s fun. Find a beginners yoga video on YouTube and go for it. Bonus points if the weather’s nice and you can do it outside. Tip: don’t take it too seriously, relax and enjoy the bonding.
HAVE DESSERT FOR DINNER
Try some place new for dessert. Go out for ice cream cones, search for the best red velvet cake or spoil yourself with some macarons. Tip: use this time to settle any debates about who has the best ice cream by going to both one after each other and skipping dinner!
TAKE PART IN A COLOUR RUN OR MUD RUN
We’ve done the colour run a bunch of times and it’s always such a fun day out. So this year we signed up for Mud Run with Kendall! Tip: if you care about your finish time, train together leading up to the event
AND WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS – GROUPON
There are a ton of good experiences on Groupon – find a affordable couples massage spa day, tickets to the theatre, there’s even a 2 night trip to Barcelona for less than £90 per person (includes flights and hotel). The options are endless
