Favourite Study Busters

Exams Coming Up? Feeling the Pressure? Then it’s time to step away from all the books and put the highlighters down and leave your study hole. It’s really important to get up and move around, because sitting down just staring at the same words, your eyes will glaze over and you’ll forget what you’re reading…trust me.

My most important tip? Remember to Breathe.

Need a longer break then just a few deep breathes? No problem, try some of my favourites when I get stuck and my head feels like it’s going to explode into a million pieces of I read one more piece of information.

  1. Go for a walk (or a run).
Personally, this has been the best thing about having a dog with me at school because I know I always have a walk buddy. Getting up and moving around to get rid of all the built up stress energy.
  2. Do a bit of 5 minute yoga.
Burning the midnight oil and it’s too late for a run, try some 5 minute yoga. Youtube has so many quick and easy yoga stretches you can do with limited space. Don’t think you need a fancy yoga mat and workout clothes because the simplest of stretches will still give you the benefits of clearing your mind.
  3. Make yourself a snack.
I know from experience that it’s easy to live on coffee and goldfish when you’re studying for a final exam, but you still need to nourish your body. Nourish your body, nourish your mind. Go get some cheese and crackers, fruit, even make some relaxing tea.
  4. Sit and just Listen.
Listen to the world around you, listen to some music and focus on the words. Need an energy boost? Upbeat music. Need something stress releasing? Calm and soothing music.
  5. Sleep.
Sometimes you just need to call it quits and get some sleep and start again tomorrow. Make yourself some chamomile tea and get a good nights sleep, you can only push yourself so far and sleep does wonders.

Studying doesn’t need to be stressful and remember you can only control so much. Take it easy on yourself, everything will work out how it’s meant to be.
