2017 Resolutions & Goals

With every new year comes new resolutions on how you want this year to be different than the last. This has always been my favourite part of the new year – be it new resolutions or new goals in general, I love planning for another new year, it’s like a fresh slate. I always try to put my new years resolutions out there to help hold me accountable, so before we get into my 2017 resolutions I thought we’d take a little look at my 2016 resolutions and see just how well I actually did…

I had five main goals and I think I nailed 3 (maybe 3.5) of the 5 so I’m calling that a win – we didn’t move house like we planned but a lot of awesome things didn’t still happen in 2016. For starters, we got engaged and if that’s not reason enough to call 2016 a success than I don’t know what is.

For 2017 I wanted to carry on the same tradition but sharing 5 resolutions or goals with y’all to help keep me accountable over the next 12 months – so here goes;

Seek more adventure. I like to think of myself has adventurous but at the same time I can definitely be a home body. This year I really want to push myself to get out of my comfort zone and take more unexpected trips this year. Rich and I have a travel bucket list a mile long so why wait – this year I want to start ticking some places off!

Be mindful of my editorial calendar. I always try to make and plan a diverse editorial calendar but then I write something and I change it or I re-read something just before it’s meant to go live and I change my mind. This year I want to make my plan and stick to it – I want you as readers to know when to expect content so I’m cutting back to just 2 posts a week in an effort to follow my editorial calendar more this year.

Read more. I feel like I say this every year and to some you might think I read a lot already but when you go from reading 100+ books a year to just around 60, you feel it! Finding time to read with a full time job and a house to maintain was a huge struggle for me last year and I really want to improve so just 5 days into 2017 and I’ve already read 2 books – whoooo!!!

Make health and fitness a priority. Well I try to watch what I eat as best as I can, I also love dessert and never turn down a donut – this year I want to be able to indulge but feel less guilty, which is why I’ve been working on so much fitness and health content (again accountably is key). I love being active but walking isn’t cutting it anymore – which is why this year I want to work with a trainer to make sure I reach all the goals I set for myself (aka do a little toning before the wedding).

Stick to a healthy sleep pattern. This might sound strange but I find it so difficult to maintain a good sleep schedule and the nights (weeks sometimes) that I struggle to get more than 4 hours a night I’m a nightmare, everything is a million times harder. That’s not even to mention what it does to my skin or my snack level…I feel like I’m having sugar every hour just to stay awake – which does not go over well with the above resolution now does it?!

And one thing I’m not going to count, a little bonus if you will, was I wanted to ring in 2017 with a new design and feel to the blog – which is officially live today so please let me know how you like it and how you want to see L&L continue to evolve over the next year in the comments below.

I’m so excited about all these and this new year! There’s so much to look forward to in 2017 (um wedding I’m looking at you) and so many big milestones for friends that I know it’s going to be a great one!

  2. If you find a way to stick to a healthy sleeping pattern LET ME KNOW! I’m the worst at doing so. These are great reflective goals for the new year. 🙂
