Since I know a lot of you are new, I wanted to take some time to introduce myself by sharing 15 things you might not know about me!
- COUNTRY LOVING CITY GIRL
While we currently live in London, I most definitely miss the country way of life in South Carolina from I completed my B.A. I have a continual internal debate about city v country – don’t get me wrong I LOVE London but then again there’s a lot I miss about living in the country. So when you’re torn you try and find the best of best worlds which for me is working in the city, living near lots of parks and venturing to the countryside for hikes on the weekend.
- I READ – A LOT
You’ve probably noticed the book section is normally very up to date – and that’s me only reviewing every few books I read. I devour books, always have. As a kid my Mom used to limit my book borrowing from the library (and my time spent there) because I’d take the whole library home if I could. Over the last 2 years I’ve easily read over 200 books, I love to read and get lost in new worlds so if you have recommendations or want a book reviewed, please send them my way!
- I’M CRAZY PASSIONATE ABOUT HUMAN TRAFFICKING
You’ve probably noticed a few references and articles to human trafficking around the blog and it’s not because it’s a “trendy” cause – I first became interested during an assignment for my B.A. in Criminology & Criminology five years ago, which led to my M.A. in International Security and eventually my dissertation on the subject. I try as much as I can to use L&L as a platform to raise awareness to a horrifying reality of the twenty-first century.
- I LOVE TO COOK
As a teenager I would have classified myself as a baker plain and simple, but now that I have my own house and someone else to feed I’ve really turned my hand at cooking which I find so relaxing – something about all the chopping and prepping is soothing, but I hate to use a recipe.
- WE HAVE AN ADORABLE DOG THAT I PARENT LIKE A CHILD
Even if you’ve only been following for a week chances are you’ve seen Kendall – isn’t she just so dang cute?! She’s my child though through and through, I call myself Mama when I talk to her and frequently have full conversations as if she understands that after my long list errands are completed it’s time for her walk. Oh well, she’s my kid!
- I ALMOST ALWAYS HAVE MUSIC GOING
9 out of 10 times I’ll be listening to country music (see number one) and if I’m home it’s most definitely coming from our record player – nothing sounds quite as good as Carrie Underwood on vinyl.
- SHOES ARE MY FIRST LOVE
Shoes for days in my closet. I love a shoe to pull a look together – I tend to pick out my outfits based on what shoes I want to wear that day. Seems a little backwards I know but shoes are the single most important thing in my wardrobe (apart from my bags of course).
- I PLAYED COMPETITIVE SOFTBALL FOR 10+ YEARS
Softball was no joke in my house growing up – everything revolved around it. I played on three teams year round, even had indoor training and private lessons. I ate a many of meals in the car on the way to softball practice or games. Although I don’t play, I love to watch a good college game and if someone gives me a glove or bat I’m just as competitive as I was back then. There’s no such thing as a friendly game of catch in my book.
- I’M AN INTROVERT
Probably the hardest for most people to believe, but I really do prefer to be at home more than anything else. I love quiet time to myself and much prefer small groups to anything with a bunch of people.
- MY “DAY JOB” IS WORKING FOR A SHOTGUN MANUFACTURER
Crazy is an understatement with this one. The job ad was for a personal assistant but now I do all their website, social media, advertising, finance, admin – basically anything and everything apart from actually manufacturing or dealing with the shotguns. I occasionally share little behind the scenes of my work on InstaStories when I find a shotgun I’m photographing particularly beautiful, like this one below – I just love the colour and all the engraving is completely done by hand which blows me away.
- I AM NOT A BEAUTY BLOGGER
Might seem odd to say what I’m not when trying to tell you more about me but let me explain – the name Lattes & Lipstick does not necessarily refer to makeup and beauty, as many believe when I first tell them the name of my blog. Instead it’s two things I can’t do without. I’m actually fairly simple when it comes to what I need beauty wise – foundation, mascara and lipstick – that’s typically all I wear on a day to day basis and since I normally have coffee in hand the name came naturally. (You can read more about the blogs name here.) So yeah, not a beauty blogger – lifestyle blogger – sharing the day to days, even the shotguns when necessary 😀
- I HAVE AN OBSESSION WITH PENCIL SKIRTS
Whilst unpacking this last week I realised that almost all my clothes are “work wear” – apart from maybe 6 pairs of jeans and a few sweaters, everything else falls under the category of work clothes and I’m okay with that. I have a deep love for pencil skirts (and dresses), both of which take up over half of my closet space.
- I CONSIDER GOLDFISH A FOOD GROUP
Seriously though, Goldfish are my favourite snack. They’re also my blogging snack, I tend to eat them most when I have a big blogging session because they’re so easy to nibble on. I reckon I have goldfish as a lunch substitute at least once a week – whoops! (See more on my horrible eating habits in the Fit Bride Bootcamp posts.)
- I ALMOST ALWAYS COLD
True story, even when I lived in South Carolina was I cold most of the time – must be poor circulation or something but the only place I truly felt warm was in Athens and I’m pretty sure it’s because we had just left freezing England so anything would have seemed nice.
- I HAVE OVER 100 DIFFERENT SHOT GLASSES
I’ve been collecting shot glasses for almost 10 years now, they’re from all over the world – friends, family, friends family – doesn’t really matter, they all remember to pick up a shot glass from their travels. I have anything from a US Army shot glass to ones from Belgium, Mexico and Greece. And I can genuinely tell you who gave me each and every one or if it’s one I bought, who was with me on the holiday.
Hope you enjoyed getting to know a little bit more about me – and I’d love to get to know you more so leave me some fun facts about you in the comments and let’s connect 🙂
