Dog Ice Cream Made Simple

The recent heat wave that hit London brought the sounds of summer ice creams and Londoners sun bathing in parks, but chances are your pup didn’t love it quite as much as you. While we loved taking advantage of the sun for long walks and afternoons spent in beer gardens, Kendall was less enthusiastic on day two.

It’s easy for us to change our sweaters out for tank tops and shorts but unfortunately our dogs can’t just zip themselves out of their fur when it gets hot. So other than the bag of ice we bought her, I decided to make her some healthy ice cream as a special treat – and to help cool her down.

I didn’t want to go to the store so I ended up using things we had already – best thing about cooking for Kendall, she’ll eat anything! Here’s what we had

  • 3 ripe bananas, peeled and frozen
  • handful of blueberries
  • 1/2c greek yogurt
  • 1/4c smooth peanut butter

Once the bananas were frozen, I blended everything together – poured into a small plastic container and refroze. Made about 4 servings. I scooped out the ice cream into a bowl and served with a little bone on top for a “cone.”

Let us know in the comments your favourite homemade dog treats for the warmer months and if you use this recipe be sure to tag us @staciandco and of course @kendall_labrador

psst – I’m a bad blogger and forgot to take photos of this recipe before Kendall inhaled it, so the main photo is of the human ice cream we recently “shared” (I’ll try and update it once I remake it)
