I posted this recipe for quick and easy dog biscuits on Instagram this weekend but wanted to have a quick way to remember what I do.
After Kendall guilted me with the saddest puppy eyes, I decided to make her some homemade treats – something I haven’t done in a while. Her favourites are pumpkin treats but I didn’t have any pumpkin so I went rummaging and found enough ingredients to make something quick and easy for her.
All you need is rolled oats, flour (I used gluten free), peanut butter and some hot water. Easy.
Mix 2 cups flour with 1 cup oats in large bowl. Add 1/3 cup peanut butter (smoothy or chunky, whatever you have) and 1 1/4 cup hot water. Mix together with your hands until it forms a dough. Mix well so it’s not too sticky. If it is sticky, add a little more flour. Roll it out and cut into shapes. (I used the openly of champagne flute to get little circles, but by all means use cookie cutters if you have them).
Bake at 350F. Now this is why it gets tricky, baking time will vary on size. Ours were between .5 – 1 cm in thickness and not very big so they cooked in about 25-30 minutes. Bigger/thicker shapes would be longer. Watch your first batch closely and then repeat for the rest.
Let them cool completely. (This is the painful part for Kendall) and then enjoy! Store in airtight container for up to 3 weeks – although ours don’t last that long!
In the end I would say we made about 4 dozen bite size biscuits with just the right amount of crunch 🙂
Let me know if you try our the recipe and be sure to tag @kendall_labrador & @staciandco if you post!
