There’s nothing I love more than spoiling Kendall with healthy snacks and alternatives so this week we taste tested some homemade pumpkin dog treats with a little peanut butter twist. The ingredients are simple, no fuss and healthy for dogs making it a guilt free snack for the most treat-loving pup.
1/2 cup canned pumpkin (make sure it’s pure and not pie mix)
2 1/2 cup whole wheat flour (all-purpose will do in a pinch)
2 tbsp peanut butter (creamy is best)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Mix everything together in a bowl – I used my hands because it was easier – until a dough starts to form. Add little amounts of water if necessary to get the right consistency. You want the dough to be stiff and workable as you’ll be rolling it out.
Roll out the dough until it’s about 1/2 inch thick and then cut as desired – we used leaves to ring in Autumn but you can use a traditional dog bone or just a simple circle – whatever you like.
Bake @ 350F until the biscuits are hard – this will depend on the size and thickness of your treats – I recommend starting at 20 minutes and working your way up from there. (The ones pictures took 28 minutes to cook.)
Let cool and spoil your pup like the prince/princess they are!
