Oh Chip and Joanna Gaines… what can one even say about them? I thought this would be a really easy review because I love Fixer Upper on HGTV and I finished the book in two sittings because it was that addicting. Yet for some reason I find myself staring blankly at the screen. Perhaps it’s difficult to focus whilst watching their show at the same time? Very likely. But it’s a new episode and I can’t turn it off, productively be damned.
I know a lot of people who simply roll their eyes when they see that Chip and Joanna wrote a book but having read it I can honestly say it’s a story that needed to be shared. They are an adorable down to earth couple inside and out – I love their relationship with each other and their family so much, which is what originally drew me to this book. And quite frankly after reading I can only hope Rich and I can have that becautiful and flourishing of a marriage and life together.
So why read The Magnolia Story? It’s the ultimate origins story. Ever wanted to know where they came from, who were they before they were Chip & Jo saying “are you ready to see your Fixer Upper?” well then grab your wine because this is the book for you. Take my word for it when I say their origins story is just – YAS! It was so motivational and inspiring to hear about where they started both in their relationship and business having followed them on HGTV for so long and seeing how much they’ve accomplished while still remaining so grounded.
The other day I saw that The Magnolia Story is actually The Trendy Sparrow’s Boss Babe Book for January and it just all made sense. While I have no aspirations of being on TV, fixing up houses or quite frankly even having the number of children they do – I do love their message, hard work and perseverance is key and sometimes you just need to put a little – okay sometimes A LOT – of faith in the universe and wait for it to come back to you. I’m the first to admit I can have a little trouble with that, I like to know exactly what’s going to happen and when it’s going to happen (I hate surprises, just ask Rich how I almost blew our engagement surprise) but this year I’m trying to have a little faith that all my hard work will pay off.
This book isn’t about how to be the next big reality star or how to flip houses, fix them up or how to care for the variety of animals on their farm – it’s a story about love, faith, a lot of hard work and taking a leap of faith when someone gives you a chance and your husband thinks it’s a scam. 😉
If you’ve already read it, let me know what you thought of it in the comments or maybe your thoughts on the show – shiplap anyone??
And for those who are simply in love and want to talk more and more about the lovely Gaines, head over to the Boss Babe Book Club on Friday, 27 January to discuss with a bunch of awesome ladies. Hope to see you there and don’t forget to let me know what you think in the comments!! Xx
